Thanks for sharing, Milo! Like other commenters, I’m grateful you’ve brought up the idea that, for those who’ve moved to very different cultures, names and nicknames carry a lot more freight. Having to change an entirely different name is very different than a diminutive, and I thank you for sharing your story and how you experienced what can, I imagine, be both a liberating and traumatizing experience. xo
